The full truth of the matter only befell her the moment she had said it out loud.

It took quite some time for him to extract it. But he waited patiently.

Her thoughts were lost in a whitewash. Her words jumped hurdles, backtracked, swayed back and forth, stumbled out.

But once it was actually in words it just floated there between them.

Full-formed and  l  e  v  i  t  a  t  i  n  g  in  mid-air .

And they both stared at it, relieved.
